The Golden City
Founded in the 10th Century and known as the Golden City, Prague boasts some six hundred years of architecture largely unharmed by either war or natural disaster. Nestled on seven hills looking down upon the winding River Vltava, the city's centre with its rich Baroque facades and red-tiled rooftops has not shed any of its medieval charm even as it has embraced modernity and moved to the forefront of Europe's great cities.
With a compact centre divided by the majestic River Vltava and watched over by the truly inspiring Prague Castle, the city is easily manageable. But for all its international sophistication - with designer boutiques and trendy restaurants opening on an almost monthly basis and a booming economy driving its cosmopolitan heart - Prague is also a city swathed in large mantles of green forests and parklands, representing the true lifestyle of the city.
